With summer music festivals in full swing, Australia's youth are brought together and expertly separated from their money. With ticket prices generally starting at $100, drinks hovering towards $9 a throw and corporate logos everywhere, it's not hard to see how a sell-out event with 35,000 patrons (ie. Good Vibrations, Sydney) is making money.
Major sponsors of Good Vibrations included an alcohol brand, an energy drink, an electronics company and the world's "most international" tobacco business. British American Tobacco transformed a tent into an ultra-cool cafe-cum-nightclub. The cigarette sales booth in the marquee's corner looked more like a cloak room in a trendy New York bar than your usual supermarket counter. While listening to funky tunes, guests could buy some sushi, help paint large-format canvasses with oil paints or just sit and chat with friends, all while inhaling thousands of toxic chemicals.
